Julius Caesar essay
Although Caesar was a tyrant to the senate and other counties, he was a hero for the people of rome. Some people said he was a tyrant well others say he was a hero. A tyrant is a dictator that does good for him only. An example of this is the dictator of north korea. A hero is a person that does what is good for the people. And example of this is Martin Luther King Jr.
Julius Caesar was a tyrant to some people for a good reason. “ Caesar conquered almost twice the amount of land that rome had when he ruled.” To other citizens that didn't live in rome they feared him. This was because he had conquered so much land. People would be afraid that he would take over there land. He also was a tyrant to the senate because he wanted to give them less power and the people more.
In my opinion Caesar was a hero in the long run. He helped many people of rome. He didn't really start to become a tyrant till the end of his rain. But before him rome was a reasonable size but not near as big as some empires. Also rome let people pay to collect taxes and some people would charge outrages taxes. When Caesar came into power he changed a lot of problems.
Caesar expanded rome majorly. “Caesar Conquered almost twice the amount of land that rome had when he ruled.” When he became the general for the roman empire he took rome. Which was the first step for expanding. This made the people of rome excited that rome was becoming powerful. After this Caesar took all of Gaul. During this time Caesar named himself the temporary dictator.
When Caesar was dictator one of the first things he did was get read of the outrages taxes that were going on thru the roman empire. “ to become a tax farmer, all you had to do was pay a flat fee to the senate of the Roman Republic. This all sounds very nice, but there were no rules. Rome wanted as much money as possible. So they didn't set limits on what tax farmers could collect. That was up to the individual tax farmer.”As I mentioned before the leader of rome, before caesar, had people pay to collect taxes. This seems like it would be alright but some people would make poor citizens pay an outrages amount of taxes. Caesar stopped this crime by making qualified people doing this work.
One more thing that made Caesar a hero. “Caesar established order, begun measures to reduce congestion in rome, draining large tracts of marshy lands, gave full voting rights to the inhabitants of his former province south of the alps, revised the tax law of asia and sicily resettled many romans in new homes in the roman province and reformed the calendar, which with one slight adjustment is the same calendar in use today.” a way He drained marshes for houses to be built. Not just that thought he also gave full voting rights to his former province south of the alps and was granted citizenship to individuals and communities. This was a great way to gain land for rome but also for it to have for citizens for trade and work.
